FAQ

Common questions

What actually moves the XAU/USD price?

Gold responds mainly to real interest rates, the US dollar, and demand for a store of value when confidence is thin. Central bank buying and jewellery demand add to it. None of that gives a direction you can rely on, and a reference price near 4275.0 is a snapshot, not a target.

Is gold quoted in dollars, and how does that affect me in the Philippines?

XAU/USD is quoted in US dollars per ounce, so your peso result depends on both the gold move and the dollar-peso rate. A trade that gains in dollars can look different once converted to ₱. Keep that in mind when you size a position, and use the profit calculator with your own currency in view.

What does 1 lot of gold mean in ounces?

One standard lot of XAU/USD is 100 troy ounces, and one pip is 0.01 in the price. That makes the arithmetic simple: a 1.00 move in the price is $100 per lot, and a pip is $1 per lot. Smaller sizes scale down in proportion, which is why lot size drives both margin and risk.

Does the gold market ever close?

XAU/USD trades across global sessions through the week and closes over the weekend, so there are gaps when it reopens. Liquidity also thins around holidays and outside the main session overlap. The trading hours page sets out the local times, and the live price page explains why a quote can differ from your broker's.

Is a reference price near 4275.0 something I should trade against?

No, treat it as a reference point only. It tells you roughly where the market was when the page was generated, not where it will go. Your broker's quote is the one that fills your order, and it can sit away from any published reference because of spreads, session and feed timing.
